Shawn Meghan Burn is Professor of Psychology at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. She has won awards for teaching, scholarship, and community service and has served as department chair of the Psychology & Child Development Department and the Women’s and Gender Studies Department.

She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology at age 20 from Virginia Commonwealth University and her Master’s degree in psychology at age 22 from Claremont Graduate University, and her Ph.D. in 1988 (also from CGU). Her research and teaching focus on the application of social psychology to address individual, group, and social problems.

She is the author of three published books, “The Social Psychology of Gender” (McGraw-Hill, 1996), “Women Across Cultures: A Global Perspective” (McGraw-Hill, 1999, 2005; 2011), and “Groups: Theory & Practice” (Cengage, 2004). She has many published research articles on a variety of applied social psychology topics such as the psychology of environmental sustainability, the psychology of gender, heterosexism, and sexual assault prevention.
